This is some time lapse photography I've been doing at Shelsley Walsh this season.
I decided to try something different as a project for the year and it has been a steep learning curve. There are definitely things I would do differently now but I am quite pleased with the results.
I'd love to hear any feedback on this.
Update: You can hear some more samples of music from the artist featured on this clip here. I'm very grateful to be allowed to use the song here.

Thought the vidio captured the atmosphere of a day at Shelsley very well. Lets have some more please. The music was just right giving interest without being intrusive and was blended with the action very well, this singer/composer shoul be heard more of.
Thanks Anthony. I'll update the post with a link to the musician's website. This was a song I just happened to hear mid way though the year and it stuck in my head for this time lapse.

Without quite knowing why, I really enjoyed this. It conjured up all the atmosphere of a sunny summer Shelsley, but from a different viewpoint, and with a good amount of the background that is rarely seen - spectators toiling up the hill, the marshals' briefing, the signing-on queue. It certainly worked for me, and it must have been a lot of work, so thanks for the pleasure of watching it. Great stuff! I liked Becca's music, too - it encouraged me to listen to some more of her on her website.
Thanks for the comments Simon and thanks for your entertaining drives this year, particularly Gurston back in May. It was a lot of work but I'm very pleased with the results and the very nice comments I've had back.
Thank you also Jeremy - just don't look at the rest of my photos as there are lots of dull car only shots there ;)
Ayyy!
Thanks chap!
A score to a movie should be invisible. (This is a very valid row I'm having with my ego!) But thanks. :-)
A strange choice - but I do kind of think it works.
I've just looked up your beautiful machine - just the sort of thing I'm found face-up, sprawled on the tarmac, taking pictures of the engines of...it's an absolute darling. (Hmmm...no hiding I'm a bird, right?) If you played Shelsley, sorry...if you RACED at Shelsley this year, I can almost guarantee I've got some odd beautiful shots of her. (yeah, yeah - 'she''s a 'he' right?) (smiling)
Images Most excellent.
A new and vibrant approach that helps reflects the true and wonderfully unique atmosphere of Shelsley. A welcome change from so many images showing all car and if lucky, just a hint of the historic surroundings.
what a fabulous tribute to shelsley!!! lets have some more!!!
I totally agree with Simon Taylors comments , after 45 years involved with motorsport & having never been to Shelsley Walsh this footage confirms all the good i have heard about it ,now looking forward to taking part in events in 2010 & beyond. Footage gave a good cross section of the days activities at Shelsley Walsh .
Loved the film. This really has captured the atmosphere of Shelsley Walsh, & in such an unusual way. It must have involved a huge amount of organising, but the results speak for themselves. I watched very closely but could not see myself in the film. Maybe next time!! I'd definately want to see more of this kind of thing though. Also enjoyed the music, which seemed very appropriate to me, & captured the essence of 'a day in the life of Shelsley'. It was also nice to see the tribute to Bob Dayson at the end. I never knew him, but always enjoyed reading his 'gossip' in the M.A.C. News, as well as seeing his drives in the Ward.
Very well done with this film & thankyou for sharing it on the website.
wow really special I like it! it puts shesley into perspective well done most enjoyable. :)
NICE ONE!!
I have watched this so many times and it is much better than a short video. Brilliant. I hope you are able to do it again in 2010.
Also a nice tribute to Bob Dayson and all those who will be sadly missed this year.

I drove at Shelsley in 1952 and won the production car class. So long ago, isn't the internet wonderful, I am now 83 and your great film took me back. It has all change so much. I still have photos and a scrap book of those days. Thanks from Canada.
Please may I see your old photos?
I'm enchanted by Shelsley. And rather surprised to be so!
I rarely leave the paddock - I find the photos there are just waiting to be taken.
I find myself on the tarmac a lot - looking a fool - but loving what I've caught when I see the pictures in reality.
Just finished a panorama of ....oh ... doesn't anyone else think it's weird that some strange woman fell in love with a race track, it's engines and the music?
errr... I see like this:

...I'm just learning. But I'm loving it.
PLEASE share your pictures?
Becc
it just reminds me ,if i ever had any doubt . how wonderfull shelsley, motorsport, music and england really are thanks . John Cartwright
I wanted to send some info to my brother in Canada to show what a Hillclimb event is like. This is fantastic, very well done. Because of the quality of the images, it HAS to be viewed full screen!
some great tracking shots and unusual angles - well done, a great collection that sums up Shelsley well.
just one REALLY irritating thing : the soundtrack just doesn't fit the speed or tempo or indeed any part of your hard work, and is very intrusive - fine, I hear the sentiment (she does repeat it often enough) but the vibe of the song is all wrong for Shelsley...
...would you reconsider setting the final cut to something with a bit more punch / speed / beat / rhythm?
oh, gwaaaan!
lovely work apart from that though, keep it up, I'll be looking out for you this summer
Hey - music's like love. It's not a choice.
By that I mean - you don't get to choose what you do or don't like musically. You just do. Or don't. Like pesto. Or Olives. Or the colour blue.
So, dispassionately, I understand.
And it would be interesting to hear it with a different sound track.
My personal opinion is that, however surprisingly...it kind of works.
Time-lapse, by it's very nature is likely to induce epilepsy to those who maybe susceptible to that illness if a more lively soundtrack were involved! Try it!
So you've a couple of choices, Mr. Bravely Anonymous:
A: Turn the whining bint down and insert your own choice.
or
B: Fashion an edit with your own choice and share it!
Either way, I would genuinely enjoy it, I'm almost certain.
Kind regards,
(The not-so-anonymous) Becca Parker. (Composer/Musician/Singer-songwriter.)
PS. (grinning still!) One MASSIVELY important thing you're over-looking - royalties. In this way, I was free of charge.)
I did originally start looking for something stronger for the music but with the speeded up motion it made it far to frantic, which really doesn't sum up Shelsley despite the speed of the racing. It is quite a mellow place really and I think the tempo, and sentiment, of the song fits well. I did spend many hours looking at royalty free music and it is very hard to find something that is a perfect fit. Ssince I knew this song from before starting to edit the project I decided to use it rather than spend more time trying to find something that was unlikely to be much better. Thanks for commenting.
Tremendous! Well Done.

well done 10/10, the video and the music go well together.
my dad's boss used to frequent here on a regular basis (both now sadly driving upstairs) really enjoyable video and the soundtrack just hit a certain note with me, think im going to pop over in the near future to enjoy for real
Reminds me of so many summer days, particularly in my youth watching ADO and Mike Mcdowel. Driving home from Shelsley on a summers eveing in my XK150 is a memory I will carry for ever. The time lapse works really well and each section is evocative of so mant visits. The music is spot on too (whatever others say). As a motorsport artist I have to say your pictures are top class. You may be getting a call from Scott requesting an image for me to paint.....all the best !
